Sizing
We recommend measuring your dog's neck and the widest part of their head. If your dog's head is bigger than their neck, we recommend going with that size so the collar will easily slip over their head. The measurement you pick, ex: 15 inches, will be the inner circumference of the collar when sitting relaxed on your dog's neck. In order to choose the best collar size for your dog, it is not recommended to use a previous collar to measure as there is no standard in collar measurements. If you are unsure about what collar size to choose, message us and we'd be happy to help!
Tips for Measuring
TIPS FOR MEASURING:
When it comes to finding the perfect collar for your dog, getting the right size is essential. A collar that is too tight can be uncomfortable and restrict your dog's movement, while a collar that is too loose may slip off or pose a safety risk. To ensure a proper fit, follow these guidelines:
1. MEASURE YOUR DOG'S NECK
Using a flexible measuring tape, measure the circumference of your dog's neck. Make sure to measure at the base of the neck, where the collar will sit. There should always be enough room between the pet’s neck and the collar to slip one to two fingers between them comfortably. This ensures that the collar isn't too tight. Make a note of the measurement in inches or centimeters.
2. CONSIDER YOUR DOG'S GROWTH AND FUR
If your dog is still growing, it's best to choose a larger size to accommodate their future growth. Additionally, if your dog has a lot of fur around their neck or experiences weight fluctuations throughout the year, consider these factors when selecting a size.
3. IN BETWEEN SIZES?
If your dog's neck measurement falls in between two sizes, it's recommended to choose the larger size.
4. SIZE RANGE COLLARS (BUCKLE COLLARS)
For collars with a size range, it's best to choose the range where your dog's measurement is close to the middle. This allows for adjustments both up and down, providing a better fit.
5. FIXED-SIZE COLLARS
For collars with a fixed size, it is very important to obtain an accurate measurement of your dog's neck where the collar is normally worn, as these collars are NOT adjustable. Take into consideration the thickness of the dog's fur to be certain you are getting an accurate measurement of the dog's neck.
Remember, a properly fitting collar should be snug enough to stay in place, but not too tight that it causes discomfort or restricts your dog's movement. By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your dog's collar fits comfortably and securely.
We want you to be confident you have selected the best size collar for your dog. Do not place an order if you are unsure of the collar sizing. Please email us with any questions to info@vividcanine.com
Care
Taking care of your Biothane gear is easy! Just follow these simple tips:
• Handwash your Biothane gear with mild soap and water, then dry it with a soft cloth.
• Brass hardware will develop a patina (tarnish) over time, but you can minimize this by regularly polishing and cleaning it.
• Don't worry if nickel-plated and matte black hardware shows wear and tear over time – it's normal and won't affect the integrity of the hardware. To keep nickel-plated and matte black hardware in great shape, wash them with mild soap and water, and dry them thoroughly after use, especially if they've been in water, like salt water, to prevent rusting.
Why Biothane?
BioThane is made with a Polymer coated webbing. The Polymer coating makes this webbing a great leather alternative, as it is more durable, waterproof, and easy to clean. It is maintenance-free, rinses clean in seconds, will not mold or mildew, and will not absorb odors.
