Sizing
We recommend measuring your dog's neck and the widest part of their head. If your dog's head is bigger than their neck, we recommend going with that size so the collar will easily slip over their head. The measurement you pick, ex: 15 inches, will be the inner circumference of the collar when sitting relaxed on your dog's neck. In order to choose the best collar size for your dog, it is not recommended to use a previous collar to measure as there is no standard in collar measurements. If you are unsure about what collar size to choose, message us and we'd be happy to help!
Tips for Measuring
When it comes to finding the perfect collar for your dog, getting the right size is essential. A collar that is too tight can be uncomfortable and restrict your dog's movement, while a collar that is too loose may slip off or pose a safety risk. To ensure a proper fit, follow these guidelines:
1. MEASURE YOUR DOG'S NECK
Using a flexible measuring tape, measure the circumference of your dog's neck. Make sure to measure at the base of the neck, where the collar will sit. There should always be enough room between the pet’s neck and the collar to slip one to two fingers between them comfortably. This ensures that the collar isn't too tight. Make a note of the measurement in inches or centimeters.
2. CONSIDER YOUR DOG'S GROWTH AND FUR
If your dog is still growing, it's best to choose a larger size to accommodate their future growth. Additionally, if your dog has a lot of fur around their neck or experiences weight fluctuations throughout the year, consider these factors when selecting a size.
3. IN BETWEEN SIZES?
If your dog's neck measurement falls in between two sizes, it's recommended to choose the larger size.
4. SIZE RANGE COLLARS (BUCKLE COLLARS)
For collars with a size range, it's best to choose the range where your dog's measurement is close to the middle. This allows for adjustments both up and down, providing a better fit.
5. FIXED-SIZE COLLARS
For collars with a fixed size, it is very important to obtain an accurate measurement of your dog's neck where the collar is normally worn, as these collars are NOT adjustable. Take into consideration the thickness of the dog's fur to be certain you are getting an accurate measurement of the dog's neck.
Remember, a properly fitting collar should be snug enough to stay in place, but not too tight that it causes discomfort or restricts your dog's movement. By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your dog's collar fits comfortably and securely.
We want you to be confident you have selected the best size collar for your dog. Do not place an order if you are unsure of the collar sizing. Please email us with any questions to info@vividcanine.com
Care
We recommend handwashing your BioThane® gear with mild soap and water and drying it with a soft cloth. Please keep in mind that brass hardware will tarnish (patina) over time, regularly polishing/cleaning the hardware will minimize tarnishing. Our gold (brass plated) and matte black hardware can show wear and tear over time, however, this is normal and does not affect the integrity of the hardware. To clean the brass plated and matte black hardware, we recommend washing with mild soap and water and drying with a soft cloth.
Important Note: Please make sure to always thoroughly dry all hardware after use in any water, especially salt water. This will help to prevent the hardware from rusting.
While BioThane® is incredibly versatile and repels MOST of the dirt and grime it comes across, please note that it is not completely stain-proof in all circumstances. Regular cleaning is recommended to keep your BioThane® gear looking new.
Why Biothane?
We only use Genuine BioThane® on our leashes and collars. BioThane® is a Polymer-coated webbing. The Polymer coating makes this webbing a great leather alternative, as it is more durable, waterproof, and easy to clean. BioThane® rinses clean in seconds, will not mold or mildew, and will not absorb odors. BioThane® is manufactured in the USA. Regular cleaning is recommended to keep your BioThane gear looking new.
